Principal Investing

Wolverine Capital Partners invests growth equity capital in very select companies, for the long-term, in partnership with established management teams. Our proven approach is very different from virtually all other potential buyers for four primary reasons:

Flexible, Indefinite Holding PeriodWolverine Capital Partners has the rare flexibility to provide stable ownership of the business as an independent entity indefinitely. Private equity funds typically have large bureaucratic institutions as their investors for a limited period, which forces the relatively quick re-sale of the business in 2-5 years. Strategic buyers are often competitors of the business and they typically sever the legacy of the business by resorting to significant cost-cutting, reductions, and eliminations. We are uniquely positioned in our ability to enable a business to continue as an independent company, with its strong history, heritage, and legacy intact for the ongoing benefit of the management team, employees, and community.

Partners with Managementwe always partner with established management teams and structure compelling incentives so we are collectively aligned and motivated to share in the success of the company. We encourage management to personally invest in the business alongside Wolverine Capital Partners. Additionally, we firmly believe in paying for performance and establish long-term equity incentive programs to reward management. We want to work together to grow the business and increase sustainable shareholder value, that empowers management to achieve their personal financial goals and aspirations.

Selectivitywe invest our own capital and are ultra selective in making our growth equity capital investment decisions. Given our firm’s strategic approach, we are deeply committed to focusing our attention and resources to close the transaction on a timely basis and work hard to make the business successful going forward.

Distinctive Approach – our principals utilize the following strategic framework:
  • Identify interesting businesses with management teams that we would enjoy working with together
  • Invest in companies with proven or emerging business models that could benefit from a change in ownership with our partnership and growth philosophy
  • Pay a fair price for a business that allows a prudent capital structure and capital for future growth
  • Add value by contributing welcome strategic and financial advice, providing access to key industry contacts and extensive relationships within the financial community, and participating actively on the board of directors
  • Support entrepreneurial managers, during times of achievement and adversity, to be successful
  • Continue to aggressively invest in the business to finance growth and expansion opportunities
  • Own the business for the long-term
